Peer to Peer Program

Peer to Pier is Oyster South’s mentorship program that pairs new and emerging oyster farmers with experienced growers, giving them hands-on training, industry insight, and a supportive community to help their farms succeed.

Peer to Pier connects beginning oyster farmers with seasoned mentors throughout the Southeast and Gulf Coast, offering real-world learning that can’t be found in manuals or classrooms. Participants spend time on working farms, observing daily operations, troubleshooting equipment, and learning firsthand how different techniques, tides, and site conditions shape farm success.

Beyond technical training, the program emphasizes community—helping new growers build relationships with peers, understand regional markets, and gain confidence as they launch or scale their operations. Mentors openly share their experience, mistakes, and best practices, creating a culture of knowledge exchange that strengthens the broader Southern oyster industry.

By supporting the next generation of farmers, Peer to Pier helps ensure a resilient, collaborative aquaculture community—one where growers learn from one another, innovate together, and continue to elevate the quality and sustainability of Southern farmed oysters.
