For the last two years, Oyster South and the team at Kimball House have brought chefs, oyster farmers, BBQ and the general public together in Decatur, GA for an event called Landlocked.

In October 2017, Oyster South threw the first ever Landlocked Oyster & BBQ Festival to celebrate farmed southern oysters and to raise money for the UGA Shellfish Research Laboratory. Thanks to all the generous sponsors and wonderful guests, Oyster South was able to write a check for over $20,000 directly to the University of Georgia.

The inaugural LANDLOCKED featured over 20 oysters farms, 14 awesome chefs, several world class cocktail bartenders and southern breweries.

LANDLOCKED 2 was all about launching a new program called Seed Bank. You can’t farm without seed, and access to seed (baby oysters) is one of the most critical variables to any farm’s success. The best way for a farmer to ensure that he or she has the seed needed to operate is to grow it themselves. Growing seed ain’t easy though. There’s equipment, labor and a steep learning curve to deal with. And that’s why Oyster South wants to continue to help out. Seed Bank funds totaling almost $25k went to upstart hatcheries as financial assistance they need to make sure that the South’s oyster farms will always have the seed necessary to grow beautiful oysters.

We made donations to L3 Hatchery (AL), Lady's Island (SC), Millpoint Aquaculture (NC), Pensacola Bay Hatchery (FL) and Triple N Oyster Farm (LA). This year (hopefully with your help) Oyster South will do it again and make more contributions to the farmed southern oyster community.
